Of your original rankings, I would put Delran ahead of Maple Shade.

Cinnaminson is right there also, parts of Mt Laurel and some of these other towns you'd be further away than Delran or Cinnaminson , if Moorestown is too pricey.

Who the hell wants to commute from Shamong to Philadelphia?

LOL

To the Original Poster, I would stick with Burlington County over Camden county.

1. Taxes are Cheaper .

2. The commute to Philly from the North is infinitely easier than from the south or due east.

If you're looking at Mt Laurel and Delran, check out Cinnaminson.

We used to rent in Mt. Laurel and purchased a home in Delran. They are both very nice, but Mt. Laurel is much larger and more spread out than Delran. If you are going to be renting, my advice would be to stay away from the apartment "complexes" especially Hunters Glen (Delran) and Fox Meadow (Maple Shade). There are some very nice condos and townhomes in the area that you can rent. Personally, I don't see anything nice about Maple Shade and would stay away from there. Moorestown is a lovely place, however pricier than the others. Also check out Palmyra and Cinnaminson.

I recently took a job with Lockheed Martin in Moorestown. First of all thank you all for the information thus far! I am wondering about the complexes that a few people have mentioned. My fiance and I are most likely going to look in the Mount Laurel area (especially after reading on here). Is it better to stay away from complexes? Is that going to affect how much we pay per month if we do? One last question is how much utilities are for an apartment in the area on average. I have been trying to figure out what we will be able to afford.

On a side note, does anyone know of any good places a biology major could work in the south NJ area (like to keep her away from Philly/Camden if possible)?

Galaxo Smith Kline is out toward King of Prussia... outside of Philly. My buddy works there or American home products.. can't remember. He changes jobs a lot.

Kadam - I would budget about $150/month for gas & electric combined. I don't know how much you're looking to spend but I'd check out renting a condo in Mt Laurel. Probably run you about $1200/month.

As a homeowner in Maple Shade for 23 years I must say that MS is a nice town to live in, If you haven't lived there and just driven through how do you know it's not a nice town? Yes like every town in America there are those trouble spots (Apartment complexes) but show me any article you can find about crime (murder, robberies, car jacking etc) Like i said I have been here 23 years and have raised 3 children who all graduated from MS High School and have gone on to college. Please tell us all what you think is so different between Maple Shade and Palmyra...........

I grew up in Palmyra...Shade is OK but 73 is a wall that keeps Camden from spilling over to Cinnaminson, Palmyra, and Moorestown. Shade is on the wrong side of that wall. Also the river towns Palmyra, Riverton, Delanco have a light rail for commutes to the high speed line to center city. IMHO

My sister's one bedroom condo is for sale in Mount Laurel. I think it is 940 square feet, clean, generous size rooms. If interested, PM me and I'll give you her agent's contact info. You can get it for cheap, no reason to pay rent.

I lived in Moorestown for 14 years and Cherry Hill for about 5. Both are very nice. Both are higher priced. Maple Shade is simply lovely. yes, more blue collar than the others but has a sweet downtown main street , and bungalow type homes on big tree lined streets. It's modest place ot live. Marlton has new construction, now downtown, very suburban neighborhoods dotting the lanscape. None of these are rural althogh the parimters of Mt. Laurel reach toward some farming areas. If you're traveling to Philly to work, and need to get there daily, the closest towns would be Haddonfield (very expensive and gorgeous), Cherry Hill (more suburban no real downtwon and plenty of traffic but train transport into the city is fairly accessible), Maple Shade, Moorestown, Cinnaminson, Delran. If you don't need to travel into the city each day then any of these would befine, safe, lovely and differ in price. You could also consider Medford, which is alos very pretty, more rural and farthest from Philly.
