Your best bet is to start at City Data NJ, then click on the towns to get information.
Have you visited these areas yet? What state are you coming from? I looked at your profile, you've posted in a lot of different states, so I'm not going to try to figure it out. Post back and we'll go from there |

I am originally from MD and moved to IN almost 2 years ago. I absolutely HATE it here and am trying to get back to the East coast. It would be through a job transfer and I am trying to find the best place to move to. My choices have been CT, NJ and PA. (No! I DO NOT want to go back to MD!) The reason I have fluctuated so much is because since I have been researching I have found out that CT is way too expensive with the exception of Bridgeport...and I hear that is not a GOOD place to live. I am intersted in Philly but not sure of what areas are decent to live in which is why I was also searching NJ. Most people have told me to stay away from NJ because of the crime, corruption, environment and outrageously expensive cost of living and unaffordable homes. That being said, I would like to think there is SOME good in NJ, no? Hope this gives you some insight to my struggles. I haven't posted a lot to confuse anyone...I am just confused myself! ![]() |

Surprised you don't want to go back to MD, hubby wants to move there.
Do you have an idea of where you will be working? The towns you picked are similar, we were going to look in Delran also until we found new housing from the $200,000's in Williamstown, which isn't far from where you are looking. Moorestown / Maple Shade may be a bit more traffic depending on where you live. Mount Laurel is nice, I wouldn't mind living there. I've never been to Delran but know someone that lives there and loves it. Her son is in the middle school, she's always said how well he does there. |

Man, I guess we do NOTHING right in this state. Last I checked, we were the second wealthiest and third smartest state. How about the schools?? You get what you pay for! |

I would rank them in this order:
Moorestown - excellent schools, rank by money magazine as the number 1 place to live in the us about 2 years ago, cute down town probably one of the nicest places to live in South Jersey. Homes are more expensive here for a good reason. Really safe and nice. Mt Laurel- Lenape school district which are great also, Homes are not as high as Moorestown. Again very safe. Maple Shade-Blue Collar town, next to Moorestown. Not a bad place at all, but I still rank it third. Safe also. Delran-The part I don't like about Delran is it is off Rt 130. Which some towns have a not nice element along this road. There are nice parts...just don't choose I think they are called Forrest Glen Apts on 130. Next to Riverside and Willingboro. Parts I would watch. I would probably pick Mt Laurel as the homes are affordable, and it has great schools too. Plus you are near 295 and great shopping...there is a Wegmans there...YUM! I personally would not pick Delran. I used to work there. This is just my opinion. I lived in SJ for 41 years, grew up In Cherry Hill and moved to the Lenape District area. |

Thank you for the input. How far of a drive would you say these locations are from Philly?
I did read up on Moorestown but think it may be slightly higher than where I want to be. Mt. Laurel sounds more up my alley. Does it have a "city" feel or is it more rural? Same question for Maple Shade. I really would like to avoid any areas that are too rural. Thank you again. |
