Theres a direct train from Hoboken to the shore , and its 25-30$ round trip , along with free beach access and other shore discounts due to NJT....

it's sadly not a very pedestrian or bike friendly town. visibility at intersections is horrible. streets are narrow. cars park right up to the corners. i think if they worked on making it look more open and appealing to walk around, people would ditch in-city car trips completely.

also - many people lilve in Hoboken but work somewhere in NJ that they drive to.

Hoboken > Manasquan is $11.50 each way on NJ Transit. No connections. My friend does it every weekend. Who the hell wants to sit on the Garden State Parking Lot to get to the shore, spending damn near $50 on gas and tolls ONE WAY?!

One can easily live without a car, but with kids I can't imagine how hard it would be.
