Metuchen is the nicest by far. The Edison station isn't really in the best area of Edison, so I'd rank that one last. The area in walking distance of the Woodbridge station is nice, but not as nice as Metuchen (or as pricey).

Agree, and of couese, it is more expensive there. However, if you happen to want to consider apartments or condos walk to Edison Train Station, here is the list I know:
1. Edison Village (5 min walk, bldg 1 to 8)
2. Blueberry Village (3 to 10 min walk depending on bldg).
3. Edison Hollow South Condos (5 min walk bldg 14 to 19)
3a. Edison Manor Townhouses (8 min walk)
4. Rivendell at Edison (12 to 18 min walk)
5. Rivendell Village at Piscataway (across Rt 529 from Rivendell at Edison)
6. Rivendell Heights at Piscataway (new townhouse rental, behind Rivendell Village, 10 to 15 min walk)
7. The Commons Condos (10 to 15 min walk)
8. Oxford Arms Apt (15 to 20 min walk, but has free shuttle)
9. Vicotria Park townhouses (right next to Oxford Arms)
10. Starpoint condo/townhouses (20 min walk but with NJT shuttle)
The other side of Edison Train Station has
1. Woodhaven Condo (7 min to 10 min walk)
2. Brookview Commons condos (10 min to 15 min walk)
3. Aspen Manor condos (10 to 15 min walk).
Most rental apartment can be applied thru their rental office and numbers and addresses can be found in Internet. Condo or townhouse rentals can be found at realtor.com, craigslist.org, sulekha.com or various community yahoo groups of each complex.

If you live in Edison (I'm assuming you do based on your screen name), it's highly unlikely that you're going to be able to buy a parking space at the Metuchen station- most, if not all of the spaces are permitted for Metuchen residents only.

Highland Park is a great little community near the Edison train station. Might be a longer walk than you wanted, but I lived in HP and I really enjoyed it. There is a large Jewish population in HP (so on Saturdays many stores are closed).

pets?
Hi, in any of these areas/apartments. Are there any that take dogs? It's frustrating. I have two small dogs and would love a decent place. It seems that hardly any accept them. (which is dumb because they deter burglars. They don't want to deal with a barking dog).
Also, I'm in the middle of credit repair and will have no debt by the time my lease is up where I am now. My credit score is not high so I'm wondering if a nice chunk of extra deposit (say 3 extra months) would get me a lease. Has anyone come across this problem?
Thanks.

Hey thanks for the help.
But they're take a bunch of screaming babies and kids who are capable of doing more damage to any property (like play with matches) then any animal can do... especially two old dogs who just want to sleep all day.
