Default Marlboro and/or Freehold

Hi. Can anyone give me the scoop on relocating to either Marlboro or Freehold? I want to relocate to the area with the best school system and want to know which areas of these towns I should avoid or which I should go to.....there seem to be so many schools and I'm not familiar with either area.
thanks for any help you can give.

Freehold, you will get more for your money . You want to Avoid Freehold Boro, but people from the Boro said they had no complaints with the schools. The HS district is the same Freehold Regional HS District. Freehold township HS is good and the boro has high scores but that is because it heads the Pre-med program. If your child isn't in that program there, there are some rough individuals in the other part. So, for Freehold, I would stick to Township schools. Every hS in District has a specialty program.

There are no specific areas to avoid, but in Marboro Monomouth Heights has had some problems with underground storage tanks. The one in Manalapan is Gas heat.

Default Freehold HS

Diane - sorry to sound stupid here but exactly which HSs are good even if your child isn't in the specialty program.....I think I don't understand the difference between the Boro and Twsp. Really sorry to be dumb about this - I appreciate your reply - I just want to get this right for my girls.....thanks for your time (and patience) Dina

Dina, All are good in the District but avoid moving to the Boro. There are some problems there with gangs. The ones that go there for the Learning Center don't share classes with the problem ones.Freehold has parts that are in the Township and parts in Boro. A realtor would know which part the house is zoned for. There are houses that border Manalapan, they are in Township schools but Boro HS, so you might want to avoid that.
I did find the schools there excellent.
Marlboro, Manalapan people tend to keep up with Jones, but Freehold I don't find that as much.

Diane

Marlboro schools are better, and the schools are one of the primary reasons why we're moving there in the fall. Our daughter will eventually attend Asher-Holmes, which is an excellent elelmentary school. Marlboro also has a central kindergarten program (ie., all the kids in the district go to one school), and this is a concept we really like.

Marlboro High School is one of the tops in Monmouth county, behind only Holmdel, I believe. Socioeconomics have a large bearing on high school success, so this isn't really surprising.

I don't know much about Freehold schools beyond the fact that a former colleague took her son out of the schools because she was very disappointed in their special education services, or really, lack thereof. This is anecdotal info. though, so hopefully others can offer more perspectives.

Marlboro also is consistently nicer, but it is more expensive. There are some sections in Freehold that are not desirable, and further from the city. I would not want to do an NYC commute from Freehold, so is that's in your plan...

As far as "keeping up with the Joneses," that only becomes an issue if you buy into it. I've become friends with several women in that area through my daughter's playgroup, and none of them are even remotely pretentious or phony.

I live in Freehold Township and all three of my children attended the Borough high school. NO MY CHILDREN weren't in the pre med course or the culinary program. They have all graduated and are doing fine. Evidently some people like to think that it your child dosen't have a career path in the Borough High School you are either a zero or belong to a gang. What I will tell you is if you feel that you are considering moving into western Monmouth County and your children will go to the Freehold Township Regional High School System do some investigating for your self. What you will mostly get here g is a biased opinion on what the Borough High School is all about. The bottom line is that Freehold Borough is a multi-racial town. There are hispanics and blacks that live in the Borough so to some that automatically makes it a bad place to live and for their children to go to school in. The biggest noise made was when people from Marlboro feared that their children may have to go to school with "THOSE KIDS" when redistricting was being talked about, a few years back. I've lived in the area for quite a long time. I just retired from law enforcement and have friendships with Police Officers from all the towns in the regional school district. I am well aware of whats going on in each town and in each high school. Maybe you should contact the administrators from each school that you think your children may be going to and ask them whats going on in their respective school. Ask more than what are the kids averaging on the S.A.T or HESPA, if they are being honest with you (which they are required to do) you will be surprised. This topic has been discussed here for quite some time so I invite you to do a C.D. search and read the threads. What I really find offensive is that some people have the gall to comment on a topic that they know nothing about. They just repeat what they have heard from others or what they perceive as being the truth. I answered a question some time back about a person looking for info. on the area. They had school age children and were looking to move into the district. The topic quickly moved to don't move into the Borough or send your children to "THAT SCHOOL". The person that posted the question sent me a private message after they read my reply. They were disturbed by the fact that it was obvious that the posters assumed they were white. The person disclosed in the p.m. that they were a black family and were just looking for a honest opinion about the area. So to you I say "do your own homework". The Borough High School is at the intersection of RT.79 and Robertsville Road, Marlboro High School is about 4 miles north of that, also on RT.79. Pay a visit to each school. Talk to the students and talk to some parents if you can. The truth may surprise you. Good luck in your search. You can p.m. me if you need any specific info.

I really hope this isn't in response to my post. I think I qualified my post pretty clearly.

It had nothing to do with you or your post.

I hope it doesn't have to do with my post because I acually still have friends in the Boro(their girls, 2 bright ones , were in my sunday school class). They did very well and one was accepted into college on schlorship. The boro acually has the highest of all SAT schores. Marlboro HS and I know this for a fact has some major drug problems. Rich kids can afford the drugs. While their lower grade schools have no problem, their HS does. I know quite a few that went there, and were upset by this.My son's friend chose not to go to Marlboro because of it. At that time Colts Neck was new and was asking for Volinteers to fill the school. They were allowing parts of Marlboro and Manalapan. My son chose from Manalapan to go there because the classes were smaller and the first 2 years they had only 400, and 600 students in the entire school. It was like private school with 10 in a class.
The boro school which I forgot is not located in the Boro which I was concerned with because of the Mexicans that stand there to get landscaping jobs. I forgot it was in a really nice section of the township, kind of countrylike. We have an area of Nashville that has the same and I avoid it.
I also know that parts of Freehold Township do go to the Boro schools. One is the development off Craig Road which is nice.
I'm sorry if I said something wrong because IMO, its the Freehold Regional HS District where all schools are supposed to be equal
Freehold Regional High School District
Here is where you can find how each school did.
Marlboro and Manalapan have drug problems in the middle schools. Every Asbury Park article had a bust. I did not see this in the Township or Boro.
Yes, you can say it happens in all schools but I find the richer the students the higher the problem.
My daughter in her first year of HS in Manalapan could not go to the Time Sq bathroom, which was located near the entance. There was the constant smell of Cigarette smoke there. This was not supposed to occur in a school, its a fire hazzard. I can't tell you how many bomb threats they had, Marlboro also.Marlboro was having 1 a week at one point. I never saw that in the HS here.
Diane
You need to be in the district to acually know the problems there.
