Where are you coming from? Jacksonville FL
Why are you moving? Husband job
Where will you be working ? East Hanover, NJ

Will you buy or rent? buy
What is your budget ? up to about 650k
What kind of place are you looking for ? house

Will anyone (spouse, children, pets) be moving with you ? we have 2 daughters so school is important and my father lives with us
Do you need/want good public schools? YES! most important to us ...husband doesn't want to travel more than 45 minutes to work though

Briefly describe the kind of neighborhood you'd like to live in
(examples: families with young children, young, mature, artsy, diverse, safe, close-knit, block parties, etc)

I'd love to live close to shopping (grocery/mall/target) with great schools and kids for my kids to grow up with. This will be our last move before they go off to college. Would love for my kids to be able to play in the neighborhood and know they are safe hanging with their friends.

List three things that are important to you in order of importance.(examples: nightlife, outdoor activities, rural/urban, safety, downtown area, charming, new construction, proximity to XYZ, family oriented, easy parking, short commute, etc)

Family oriented
schools
commute time

We are looking in the Newton NJ area although I'm so clueless as to where to live. I don't really fancy the older homes (husband is 6'9) and the dropped ceilings don't suit him. My girls (12 and 9) as well as my husband are swimmers and would love to find a club team that they can continue....any advise is greatly appreciated!

The towns that come right up on my head are Chatham, Madison, Summit, Millburn and Florham Park. But for a family of five and a budget of $650K that may be a stretch in Chatham/Summit/Millburn. You may have better luck with either Madison or Florham Park. And Madison has a nice little downtown which would be great for family especially during summer time.

Rockaway Twsp and Denville are nice areas close by with a short ride in. Newton is further out and you will hit more traffic coming in.

I would suggest Livingston. This is actually 5-15 min from East Hanover. Schools are good. This is why we are here. In fact our friends are moving to Florida and they are about to start selling a house in Livingston.
If you are interested, I can give your their contact information and you can talk to them directly. No pressure - this was my first thought when I read this post.

Denville is good as you may get a lake front house too. Just stay away from anywhere near the downtown area as it is a low lying land and was badly flooded during Irene.
