Early afternoon should be better. Most people go down either Friday night or Sat morning. I don't know where you're coming from but if you are on the GSP south between 9am - noonish you'll hit major traffic on a nice day, especially going to the exit you're going to - you'll have to pass most of the major beach exits.

Kate - i personally wouldn't leave after 7am, 9am is too late IMHO. If you don't want to leave that early wait until 1-2pm.

You can avoid the parkway almost completely if you want to leave mid morning - take 287 to 202 to 31 to 195 to Allentown to 539..and I'm sure you can take back roads to your area (70?)....

I take exit 80 often. Except for Friday afternoons and weekends, most of the traffic is going north. I come from Rt. 527, onto Rt. 571, and then a few miles on the parkway to exit 80 (no tolls). Are you going to Beachwood?

You can also take 195 to exit 21, Rt. 527 and take to the end and then make a left onto Rt. 571, then onto the parkway/Rt. 9 South for a few miles to Exit 80. There are less deer this way.

There are a few ways to avoid the parkway, but wouldn't advise it, if you're driving late at night.

There is no train. The train ends at Bay Head. The Parkway is for people that know this.

No Whiting and I go this far south and take 530 because I hate that 10-15 miles on 70
