Hi,

I will be moving from NC to NJ in the next month. I know very little about NJ and apartments in NJ. I would really appreciate if someone can point me to a community where rents < 1500 for a one bed near Secaucus, where my office is located. I am married with no kids. So, schools are not at all in the criteria.

I found xchangenj.com in Secaucus but its rent > 1850 for a one bed but I am not sure if that place is safe.

Thanks in advance!

That's because it's relatively new construction with NJ "luxury" extras. Much has been written here about the cities in your area and NJ apartment hunting (which can be more complicated than other places). The best thing to do is look at a map and search the forum a little more, then come back with specific questions. But yeah, for $1500 you'll find a decent 1BR in the area-- it just won't be the newest ones.

Yes, plenty, unless you want to leave right in Secaucus (even then it should be possible). If you're looking for a more suburban (what is usually considered nice) neighborhood look at Rutherford, East Rutherford, Carlstadt, Wood-Ridge, Hasbrouck Heights - all of those would be a rather short and painless drive to Secacus.

The Exchange at Secaucus is newer construction and geared toward professionals who want close proximity to a short commute to the city and has a lot of amenities, that's why it's expensive. It's located near the Secaucus Transfer, a huge train station with a ten-minute train ride to New York Penn. Very safe.

You should easily be able to find a decent apartment in a good town for $1500, but give us some info. Do you need to commute to Manhattan, or if not, where will you be working? Do you want to be in the suburbs or a more urban area?
