Default Burger Deterioration

When I moved to Monmouth County nearly three years ago, I discovered The Windmill, which is sort of a chain, but I've only ever gone to the original one in West End Long Branch. It's the one that actually looks like a windmill.

I just LOVED the charbroiled burgers, which reminded me of the ones you get at The Fireplace on Route 17 in Paramus. I've since taken family members there to get those burgers, and they loved them, too.

Last weekend a friend was visiting from out of state, and I told her about the great burgers at the Windmill, so we went. What a disappointment. The juicy charbroiled burgers, that were always fresh-tasting meat and a decent size, have been replaced by what appears to be very thin, grayish, probably frozen patties. It's not the same thing at all.

Has anybody else noticed this? Does anybody besides me care?

Haven't been to the West Long Branch location in a day but I'll likely be going to the one in Red Bank this weekend, will report on my findings!

Also The Fireplace was the first thing I thought when I first had a burger from Windmill!

I LOVE the Fireplace! My parents used to bowl in a league at Paramus lanes and we would go there for dinner every Tuesday before we went to the bowling alley. Never tried the Windmill but there is one down here in Brick. I'll try it out and report back as well.

It's a burger diet!

And I had an out-of-town guest and wanted to show her our best burger place. Very disappointing.

There is a Windmill in Freehold Township. The quality is not so good and it's pricey. We also had a New England Hot Dog which was pretty good but it just closed down. Moore's Tavern has a pretty good burger, so does cheeburger, cheeburger in Manalapan. Been meaning to try Sonic down in Howell. Some say they are pretty good for fast food burgers.

I thought Sonic was crap. A lot of hype and as crummy as Burger King's burgers.

It's not close but Shake Shack makes the best burgers of the mini chains.

I always get a great bacon cheeseburger at Friendly's.

Is there a Shake Shack in NJ, though? I've only ever been to the one at Madison Square park.

There is a Sonic near me and I went inside and looked at the food, but it appears they put mayonnaise on their burgers as a default. I find that appalling and flatout borderline criminal. If I have to ask to have mayo left off my burger, I don't want it.

I walked out, went to the adjacent supermarket, bought ground beef and made my own damn burger.
