I thought I was seeing things when I read the APP today. It seems the former Brendan Byrne Arena now Meadowlands Arena will soon have yet another new name. drum roll...The Izod Center, named after the clothing designer. How peculiar (sp) is that?

Are they going to slap a huge green alligator on the front of the buildings? Just call them "The PreppyLands".

I thought they were tearing that place down. We looked at it several years ago when the NJSEA was trying to keep the Devils and Nets there, and to make the place competitive with modern arenas/concert halls would have cost around $300 million- you could take it down and build a new one for less. I guess now that the Devils and Nets both bailed, they'll just slap some lipstick on the pig and use it as a second-rate concert venue or something.

It been called "continental arena" since the mid nintys I believe. I had some good memorys there. I remember going to Nets games in the late 80's and you could hear a pin drop in the place it was so dead. We used to buy 5 dollar tickets and walk right down to almost coutside.

Another funny thing about that place is from the day it opened it looked outdated. Like there was something Missing. The worst part about it though is the steps. They should have thought to put in escalators. A lot of senoirs can't go there because of it.

You're right I forgot it's real name, "Continental Airlines Arena" . Where did the name "Meadowlands Arena" come from? The racetrack, I guess? I remember when my son was in grammar school , his basketball team got to play one of their games on the Nets Court..it was very cool.

The arena is IN the Meadowlands. I think that name should stay. I don't like it changing, but hey, what I think doesn't matter!

Izod Center? Weird. I'm no fashion expert, but Izod hasn't been popular since the 70s. They would be less outdated if they called it the "Members Only" Arena.

It'll be great, and then in 4-5 years they can blowup the 'Burnizodentinentalands' Arena

You would think so but Izod has made a comeback. I started noticing the clothing again last year in Macy's, Penney's. I like the quality of their polo shirts a lot and it does bring back memories. They aren't calling it Izod La Coste anymore, either. So what happened was Izod won out for the arena over Rocawear & Southpole which I think are both hip-hop clothing lines. Rapper J-Z owns one of them.
