I may possibly be moving to Newark in January from Cincinnati, OH. I'm wondering what the winter months are like in Newark? How cold does it get and how much does it snow?

The NorthEast (Nwk, NYC, JC) can experience harsh blizzards but not many. Snow and freezing temps are not uncommon, however, many days in the winter are not necessarily desolate and can have plenty of sunshine.

ps: it definitely WILL snow lol, but it wont be Alaska everytime it does

Thanks for not answering my question. As for researching Newark, I have done some on it plus I have relatives that I visit there sometimes so I do know that a lot of Newark is gritty and has a relatively high crime rate. Newark still isn't as bad as my home of Gary, IN (unfortunately). I have yet to visit a place as depressing as Gary although some parts of Detroit are really close but it's still not the whole city like Gary.

My sister lives in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Newark, right near Branch Brook Park. There was a very encouraging article in the NY Times about the area http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/26/realestate/26living.html (broken link). I'm glad you realize that not all of Newark's neighborhoods are bad. I'm considering moving to Newark from Brooklyn, NY. I for one, love the urban environment of Newark, and I'm not frightened away by crime...I am after all, a New Yorker. To answer your question, if you grew up in Gary, IN you should be able to handle the winters in Newark, they are a lot like NYC, not as severe as Chicago or Buffalo.

OT, but, I love the statement in that article that reads "And because public-school-related expenses are largely borne by the state, property taxes in Forest Hill are as attractive as home prices.". In other words "all of the other taxpayers in NJ will be subsidizing the school system in Newark ad infinitum"- now there's a great policy.....lol.
