I recently moved to NJ (Monmouth county) from NYC (lived there 7 years - before then, out of the country), and only recently found out about the Jersey breakfast (pork roll). I'm planning to try it out soon in a nearby diner. I'm curious as to what other (junk) food that's popular in NJ is there -- for example, I really enjoyed the In-n-Out burger while in California. Please also list the restaurants that serve them, so that I can try them out! Thanks

Tasty Kakes, Hostess, and Entenmanns come to mind. And let's not forget the other uber-healthy NJ breakfast treat- the hard roll slathered with 1/2 a stick of butter.

Or Toasted bagel with a mountain of creamcheese, or Portugues roll with cream cheese and jelly for that matter!!

Don't forget the "Fat Darrell". Not very well known, but localized to NJ.

Ingredients
For the Lady and Sons chicken fingers:
16 chicken tenders or 4 boneless chicken breasts each cut into 4 equal strips
House Seasoning, recipe follows
2 cups buttermilk
3 cups self-rising flour
Peanut oil or lard
For the french fries:
6 large red potatoes, skins on
Oil, for frying
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
For Paula's mozzarella sticks:
1 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan
1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Pinch ground red pepper
2 (16-ounce) blocks pasteurized mozzarella cut into 4 by 1/2-inch sticks
4 large eggs, beaten
For assembly:
3 large rolls, sliced
Marinara Sauce, jar or homemade
Lettuce, sliced or shredded
Tomatoes, sliced

The Fat Darrell is said to be 1,718 calories - that's 85 percent of your recommended daily allowance - and 78 fat grams.

Go to any good NJ diner and order "Disco Fries" = french fries with mozzarella and brown gravy. They are so scrumptious, yet no one outside of NJ seems familiar with them!
