Not sure if everyone knows this, but there's an amazing feature to city-data, aside from the forums. Every state has a list of all of it's cities and when you click on any city it has pictures and tons of info, i.e. schools, taxes, jobs, etc. For whatever reason Sparta is not listed, but Newton is. Does anyone know why? Thanks

I checked the site and under "Lake Mohawk" you will find what you are looking for. Of course this is confusing since the town is known as Sparta. Perhaps Lake Mohawk is the postal address for anyone who lives in Sparta..........anyone care to clarify?

Wow, you're right. I have never heard of Lake Mohawk, NJ. It's funny, on the map, you clearly see the city of Sparta, but City-data refers to it as Lake Mohawk. Can anyone who is more familiar clear this up? Thanks

Lots of "towns" in NJ are known by their Twp. name so that my be why they are not listed as cities.
Branchburg, Bridgewater, Warren,Twp. are popular central jersey towns and are not listed but Washington Twp. is.
Perhaps those folks who put this site together know the answer to your question.

Those aren't the only examples of this strange assortment of "town" listings.
For instance, Franklin Twp, with a population of ~50k people, is not listed, but Somerset--which is a part of Franklin Twp (with a population of ~22k people)--IS listed.
Somerset does not have its own government, police, or other municipal services, and instead shares all services with the other parts of the township (Griggstown, Middlebush, Franklin Park, Pleasant Plains, East Millstone, Blackwells Mills, Little Rocky Hill). Essentially, Somerset is just a zip code within Franklin Twp.
It seems that whoever compiled this list was not fully knowledgeable about what constituted a municipality, and what constituted a neighborhood/community within a municipality.

There is no Lake Mohawk mailing address, those residents are in Sparta with a Sparta mailing address.

Some one also should mention that they are lumping towns together as one, when in fact they are two separate and distinct municipalities....C/D lists "Chester" "Rockaway" "Chatham" as well as "Mendham" as one community, although as we all know they all are both Townships and a separate Borough. Those where just the ones I spotted during a quick scan, I am sure there are others. Interestingly, they seem to combine both municipalities poplutations into one total, and then pick some of the other statistics from one, and some statistics from another. Clearly this very can be very confusing and misleading to people using this site when searching for info, especially if they have no familiarity with the region.
Perhaps a forum moderator can let us know whom to contact and how we can help to rectify/clarify these errors?

I just did a bit of digging and came across the address to contact the owners of this forum (C/D) to let them know of mistakes. errors@city-data.com Perhaps if we all took the time to send in the factual corrections, we can make a difference!
