My husband works in Newton and I work in Montclair. We live in South Brunswick and need to move to reduce at least one commute. We love Newton's small town feel, cute downtown and Victorian homes but that would mean a long commute to Montclair with an infant and toddler. What towns are like Newton but are within 30-45 minute commute from Montclair.

I am moving to Newton in about 2 months. Going to rent for a year and see what opens up in the area. I work in Elizabeth, so the commute will be long, but I prefer the quality of life in this area.

try Morristown, Netcong ( all though Netcong may be closer to 1 hour depending on time of commute)

Boonton has some victorian homes, you might want to expand your search to Parsippany, Denville and Rockaway as well where there's older homes, not sure how many vic. homes though but they're closer to Montclair than Newton.

hmmm, i personally would try to get closer to Montclair rather than Newton, as your husband will have a reverse commute. otherwise, your commute will be hell.

don't know your budget, but how about glen ridge or livingston?
