btw, to the people that said "dont be dramatic and hysterical", this is not the end of days, but sh1t hit hard, and many people died and many thousands lost erything so while i agree with being not overly hysterical, this storm wasn't all hype, as some people thought
in other words, good to be in the middle, not overly hysterical, but not overly macho and disregarding either, those are the types of people to get killed first

Ticatica - Charlotte is +-200 miles inland and we certainly didn't expect to suffer the consequences of a hurricane here! My parents have a house at the beach (in NC) and I insisted they come home before the storm hit (turns out they would have been fine if they had stayed at their beach house).

Hugo made landfall in Charleston, SC with 145 mph sustained winds. The storm continued with the eye passing just west of central Charlotte. I believe the sustained winds here were 80 mph with gusts up to 100 mph. I lived in the center city at the time and a huge tree fell and totaled my (ex-husbands) car. I suppose the good thing about Hugo in Charlotte was that it came thru in the middle of the night when everyone was home. I believe the weather reports that night were saying we would get some wind/rain but we had no idea it would be as bad as it was. Trees were down everywhere. You couldn't go anywhere because so many roads were blocked.

I remember as a kid and young adult being at the beach and hearing about a hurricane coming. Many times we would stay and tough it out. After seeing what a hurricane can do 200 miles inland I will never stay again. If I am told to evacuate I am the first person on the road!

Hope you all are staying safe!

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I have very mixed feelings about leaving BUT if it was a mandatory evacuation, I'd have to go.

My wife and I are literally distraught regarding the loss of life and destruction from Sandy. We in
Florida expect this type of storm recovery and are always on the edge, yet you guys get hit it's
and oxymoron!! The efforts by many utilities, police ,medical personnel,Red Cross FEMA and simply
residents unplugging street sewer drains is remakable. New Jersey people are really cool and I
pray all will resolve soon! We love you folks!

i wish this would have been in effect now, more props to christie for anticipating the problems we having now
Christie proposes law to spur N.J. utilities during weather emergencies
The measure increases fines from $100 to $25,000 a day with a maximum penalty of $2 million for violations in responding to an extended power outage. And it prevents utilities from passing those costs along to customers.
i bet they'd move their ass faster if they were fined this much ery day

I live in Maryland just a few miles northwest of DC and open my home to a single, couple or small family displaced by Sandy. It's only about 225 miles from NYC to here, so by train, plane or automobile, if you if anyone you know seeks short or longer-term shelter and can get here, please DM me.
