The casino's are a lot more then just casino's. They also happen to be very large hotels with extensive facilities and ability to feed and house people for extended times. There are a lot of people working and providing services down the shore. Given that most of the hotels and motels along the coast were pretty much wiped out, the casinos will give companies a good place to let their workers stay and still have ready access to the impacted areas. Additionally, people who are now homeless and had the money, they could setup there comfortably for awhile if need be.
not to mention the game rooms where flooded for the most part by the storm surge, that island was completly washed over.

I understand that they only had some minor water incursion into the casinos themselves, nothing that a Wet Vac and carpet shampooer couldn't quickly fix.
NJ's shore has been cut in half due to Sandy. The destruction along the beaches is unbelievable.
Atlantic City was opened up this morning and Atlantic City's casinos have reopened. Atlantic County's travel ban has been lifted as well in some other counties.
Gasoline: South of I-95, 90% of the gas stations are open. North of I-95 it is more problematic to get gas. FEMA sending generators to get gas stations working.
Wonder if they will take a hint about building on Islands... No prolly not. Let em be beaches, Not neighborhoods.
