Valuables represent human lives. All the stuff I have took half my life to work for. Insurance is inadequate, since they can be trusted to weasel out of any claim they can, and to grudgingly pay a fraction of those they can't.

Not if you spend the money to insure with one of the top-tier companies. Your premium will be 2-3 times what you'd pay someone like Allstate or State Farm, but you'd get a fair, no hassle claim process. I guess it comes down to priorities. I choose to insure with the company top rated for paying claims knowing that I'll be in the rebuilding stage before my neighbors even get an adjuster out. You get what you pay for.
