My sister in Monroe just texted me. On Saturday, they got power back for a minute and then it went out again. Now today they got power back for 40 minutes and then it went out again.

Sometimes, they have to shut off certain grids in order to put power on in other areas. Stinks, but the utility workers have to do it.

I know there has to be a reason for it. Still, I feel bad for her. My BIL had been having trouble walking and was just diagnosed with MS (at 65!!!) a couple of weeks ago, and now they're without power for more than a week. They'll survive, though. She lives in a 55+ community, and half the complex has still not had power restored. I think she feels worse for the older people in their 70s and 80s.

No, they don't, they have manual override.

And, when the mechanism is de-energized, they would stay locked by default. The COs are still safe and totally in control during power failure.

If it were otherwise . . . talk about thousands of crazy prisoners "Dancing in the Streets!" .

:Glad to hear!! My sister in Toms River finally got power back last night, poor thing. My mother in Manchester never lost power so sis and bil were staying there and truth be told I don't know which would have been worse a cold dark house or living with my mother for 9 days I would have been homicidal by now!

The instant before my power was restored here in the house, I was in my freezing, dark cellar, standing on a short step-ladder to reach a ceiling-mounted cold-water faucet. I wanted to turn off an outdoor garden hose connection for the winter.

I reached up, grabbed the handle and turned it and that second all the lights around me in the cellar turned back on. WTF??

It startled me so much I almost fell off the ladder, LOL. . . .and I should know better... Three Stooges routine??
