I have a great idea, since it seems like your on the Internet 24/7 how about giving it a break this way you can free up some bandwidth and your power company can provide some much needed power to others. Your carbon footprint must be immense. Side note: I nominate your husband for being husband of the year and I really mean that. Not trying to be a wise guy!
Just FYI, most stations need a 20-30,000 watt generator at a minimum to function and some more then that depending on the number of pumps. Pumps draw a large amount of wattage to run. Typical small 1/2hp well water pumps can easily pull 3,000 watts. Larger pumps like those used at gas stations can easily draw 6,000 watts. On top of that you need to power the control and computer systems so the pumps will function and dispense gas.
While it may be true that you'd need power for the computerized controls, cash register and modem (for credit and debit cards), it is certainly doable with a relatively small generator, but you still need the backup wiring to the panel. Many gas dispensers run on ordinary 115/230v AC power, some on 3-phase, especially submersible turbine pumps.
FWIW, a 1/2 hp is equivalent to about 350 watts, or possibly 1000 watts for a few seconds, during startup, but certainly not 3,000 watts. There is also no particular need to run ALL of the pumps simultaneously, during an emergency. Other systems would also be required, including alarms and lighting. Many gas/grocery vendors would also install optional backup power for refrigerators.
However, various fire and building regulations may apply to fuel dispensing services, including how electrical connections can be made and where you can position optional standby power systems.

Are you really that clueless? Power or not the fuel supply of the station was limited. Resupply was delayed due to access. So power or not, it doesn't matter. Maybe some don't realize that today's self service type pumps are a bit more complicated than the older pumps of the 60's. The entire system must be operational, not simply the pumps.
If a station thinks it's in their best business interest to have a backup power supply, let them install one. Don't pick my pocket to do so. Maybe if the residents were better prepared there wouldn't have been such a big problem. Most would seek fuel to simply ride around the area.
It's even better. Looks like the poster must have had some interest in gas stations not having generators and managed to find this thread. And after finding that very specific topic of interest, the one item that drove them to then go through the process of signing up and making their (and I was tempted to type "they're") first post... was a common grammar error.
