At this time in the US, your "heart hurts" for people with jobs? You must need a by-pass when you see unemployment figures.
People need any type of jobs with at least one day of rest. Nobody should ever be working 7 days a week, no matter how poor or wealthy the person is. This is slavery! If somebody is forced to work 7 days a week means he/she is being underpaid, and the government needs to increase wage and/or help out.
Germany, Austria & Switzerland have blue laws, and barely anything is open on Sundays. How come their unemployment is lower than us, and overall better economy?

Its option in Europe , but many places close anyway...its a day of relaxing or partying...bars , clubs , parks are all teeming with life.

No, it's not an option in German speaking countries. However, many European countries do not have a law, but still decides to be closed on Sundays for a day of rest. In America, since everything is about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$! Store managers, especially corporate would be want to be open as much as possible without the care of the employees and co-managers just to make some extra bucks.
Thank God the government protects us somehow from that due to labor law, even though they aren't as great as other developed nations, like Canada and Europe.
There are some people who live in Bergen County that do shop or visit malls on Sundays for any reason, especially those who live few miles from the border. Malls that are open on Sundays do love Bergen C. blue laws because it brings more money in to them, otherwise they would lose.
I would LOVE if all of the U.S. & Canada had blue laws. When I go to other counties and states seeing things being open on Sundays, my heart hurts for the poor employees
I can understand anyone's opinion in wanting blue laws based on their own values. But feeling bad for retail employees makes no sense. Retail employees in other counties choose to work in retail knowing that stores are open on Sundays. I'd hope that they are happy with their choices.

Sometimes they have no choice but working in retail and being open for 7 days.
It's hard to find 9-5 jobs, and just because they have to work in retail, or in a place being open for 7 days doesn't mean we should treat them like slaves, and take away their day of rest for any reason.

This is sad!
I know people who work in retail where there are no blue laws. None of them work all 7 days. They all get one, two, or more days off. There really is no reason to be concerned that they aren't getting time off.
Hurricane Sandy is over, and everything is back to normal now, including blue laws are in effect.
God Bless all of us, and thank you for your opinion/thoughts (Even though I disagreed with many here).
- Keep this in mind:Life is very short, and not everything is about money. Quality of life is not worth "extra" unnecessary cash going to already wealthy corporate (business owners) who don't care about their workers, but themselves. We have turned into an evil and selfish society, which has harmed everybody.

nunnor, Employees get days off, but are you saying the "only" day of rest is Sunday?

Seriously, this Mod Edit: person thinks that because the stores are open 7 days means that everyone is working 7 days? Get a clue, more than one person works in most stores and they have some type of schedule where not every single person is working every day. ANd with the economy the way it is now, it wouldn't be hard to find people that actually would want to work 7 days because they could use the money, not forcing others that dont want to work 7 days to do it.
