Default Opinions on Jersey City vs. Hoboken?

HI... I recently moved from Florida to the NY/Jersey area and was looking for a place in Hoboken. I am now shocked to find out how hard it is to lock down a place in Hoboken (apartments go in less than a day when they become available). I was wondering what the differences were in Jersey City compared to Hoboken (safety, shopping and restaurants, PATH systems, SAFETY etc.) Jersey City seems to have more availability and cheaper rents, even some of the places I have looked at are very close to the Hoboken area i.e. Croxton area. Is JC starting to become an equal to hoboken's neighborhoods or should I just wait and see what I can find?

Jersey City has a long way to go to get the amenities, shopping, dining, etc., that Hoboken has, which is most of the reason for the lower rates and higher availability. Also, you can rent just about anyplace in Hoboken and be assured that you're in a pretty safe neighborhood, whereas in Jersey City you'll be taking your life in your hands if you rent in the wrong area.

The PATH services are one and the same in both towns- you can get to the same places from either town, though you may have to switch stations more from one than the other (minor inconvenience since the stations are all so close in that area).

If you rent in Jersey City stick with the downtown area, its like a different town than the rest of the city. Its also a high rent district.
