Yes, those people are camped out one week ahead of time in order to buy cheap electronics.
If you have the time to do this, I have to assume that you are unemployed--or soon will be unemployed due to an extended absence from your job.
But...if you are unemployed...Should you be buying more electronics?
Wouldn't it be wiser to conserve your money for...food, utility bills, and medical care?
Large retail stores are starting to open "Black Friday" now on Thanksgiving evening, and forcing their employees leave the traditional family holiday to go and work 12+ hour shift with not even overtime paid holiday.
Soon Malls will be opening on Thanksgiving too
I myself will work from 7 AM - 7 PM with only one 30 min "lunch" break. Our company do not provide any lunch, neither do we get time-and-half
So when I hear some putrescent mayor of Paramus deciding who can open their bloody store and when, it sends me into a state. Freedom is more important than one person telling another what to do and what to celebrate. Everyone needs to mind their own business and if they don't want to shop? Stay the hell home! You are free if you decide to stay home. You are infringing on my freedom if you presume to decide when I should stay home.
Mayor of Paramus had no issues with opening earlier than 7 AM on Black Friday (since it's only once a year), but people that live in Paramus and surrounding towns were against it, including retail employees.
On Black Friday, I work 7 AM - 7 PM with only ONE 30 minutes lunch break. We do NOT get paid overtime either, nor do we get paid on Thanksgiving Day when mall is closed.
My manager will be working from 5 AM - 11 PM on Black Friday....
Marc... you would hate living in Europe What I noticed from you.... You hate labor laws that protect employees, and you are truly anti-socialism, and 100% capitalist.
This is not necessary something bad, because many Americans are like you (and most used to be). However, it is changing.

Boo flippin Hoo. I did that 30 years ago. You get a lunch break? Wow. Provide lunch? Is that some sort of joke?

I know, right? I never received lunch from where I worked and never expected it either. Black Friday IS NOT A HOLIDAY and doesn't qualify for overtime pay. Nunnor, should black Friday be another day of rest?
Well, I work at a Hospital and they got me working on Thanksgiving. And I have Christmas off, so it balances itself out
