It's hard to control what people put on those spots. There's one near my house that's been there for years. There was another where a young girl drover her car into an iron fence; the shrine was huge, and was definitely a distraction.

They are a reminder how fleeting life can be. I respect their presence and if they bring some small measure of comfort to family members, even better yet.
