Still I feel the need to just state that this was a casual joke in my my previous place of employment, and I am certain it is not an accurate reflection of all *Canadians* everywhere, and I personally have many generous *Canadian* friends whom I adore.
For the record, I leave 20% of final bill (tax alcohol inc). Leave 25% for really great service. One night I was out at a happy hour with some college buddies. I opened a tab, and just had everyone charging to it, i was shocked when I saw the bill, thought it would be higher. The girl was great with the constant food and new pitchers of beer. I was feeling generous and gave a great tip. As I was getting my coat to leave from the front she actually pulled me aside and thanked me. Thats the first time that ever happened.
I feel bad for these folks, mostly kids. You ever work in a restaurant? Its a grind man. And the less expensive, the WORSE it is to work at. I'm not snooty, I'll stop into a Fridays or something for beer and a burger. And seeing these kids get tormented by folks who think they are eating at some 5 star restaurant is kinda sad.
If I dont have cash to cover 20%, i put it on card.
