Basically my wife and I are looking for a rental and there seem to be plenty there...but would it be safe? My wife is currently pregnant and we will be having a child very soon. My concern is the safety around the general area and if it would be the right place for a young family

A friend of mine (female) has a condo there and walks her dog alone every night and sometimes gets home from work very late - never had any problems or ever felt unsafe there.

my parents live in paramus..so it seemed like hackensack might be a good option for dropping off the child in the morning or for them coming over to watch over. saves money on having a babysitter. there are honestly not that many option for rentals...and i would rather not rent in a garden apartment...they just seem so old and run down.

We rented at the Excelsior (although many years ago) and loved it. Prospect Ave is very safe. I used to walk around and never felt wary.

lived there for 3 years before we moved to Essex county. The area is very safe, but the problem is it doesn't have much kids activities. Best of luck to you.

My grandparents were in The Excelsior from 1995-2008 during the summer. The apartments are very nice there.

As far as safety, the issue is not Prospect Avenue, it's a few blocks away. It's pretty safe on Prospect and Summit though, yes.
