Where would you buy with a budget of 450k - 600k?

I am hearing good things about Bridgewater, Bedminster & Hillsborough. Not quite sure about schools in Branchburg or Whitehouse station.
i'm partial to montgomery and bedminster - i have family in montgomery and they like it, but my warning is the schools are incredibly competitive, kids whose whole lives are academics without much socialization. if your child is not a top notch student they may get lost in the shuffle.

i lived in bedminster for awhile and really liked it. schools are excellent as well.

i like bridgewater too and that would be my 3rd choice. schools aren't ranked as highly as the other 2 but really they are well above average.

branchburg would be my last choice.

I cannot speak for the schools, as I moved to Branchburg after graduating high school. I believe Branchburg kids go to school in Somerville, and I do not know too much about their academics. You can probably look for old threads on Somerville High School.

As far as living, I think Branchburg is a nice, semi-central location (and close, since you work there). It's pretty quiet, crime is basically nonexistent (I never feel unsafe walking alone at night and I am a female in my 20s), and neighbors are pretty friendly. Having Rt 22 and Rtes 202/206 mean pretty easy access to everything you need. You also have 78 and 287 close to travel further out. You also have many train stations to choose from if you like to go to NYC, including a station in Branchburg itself (North Branch).

Downside: we tend to lose power a lot, even outside of major hurricanes - it also tends to take longer to restore. Also, not much in the way of entertainment or dining. However, it goes back to the proximity of nearby towns.

Big positive..... Wegmans in nearby Bridgewater. Far superior to your standard grocery store.
