if you're content with the cheaper chicken - i'm jealous. i wish i was. i have tried costco's chicken and it's bleh. the organic chicken at trader joe's is just so much tastier. i've cooked it for family and guests and not told them what it was (in ways they've already had it prepared) and they all comment on how amazing it tastes.

but you're right - if the more expensive product does little or nothing for you, why would you pay more?
if you find something, let me know. i could use the ground beef, since i love taco night. but roasts and stew type stuff isnt really gonna work for me. its gotta either cook on the grill or be put in a taco.

i guess i add the flavor to the chicken with seasoning/sauce and im happy. ive only had the fancier chicken in restaurants and i cant remember noticing a big difference. maybe ill pick up some fancy chicken at dearborn (since i have a gift card) and cook it alongside some of my standard cheap stuff and compare.

the organic chicken family pack at TJ's is $2.99/lb. that's not $1.67/lb, but it's still pretty good. purdue all natural is ok, but not fantastic. i guess i could compromise there and get coupons for it. USDA select is just not worth eating to me. i'd just as well go vegetarian. lol

thats probably half of what it would cost me at dearborn. that place is such a rip off for most things, i cant bring myself to buy stuff there even though i have a gift card. so far all i got with my $200 gift card was 4 red velvett cupcakes for my wife.

im scared of select also but i really have no experience. there were some select fillet mignons on sale at shoprite for a really cheap price and i was too scared to buy. but i do wonder if it will ultimately not be that big of a difference. ive already found that i prefer dark meat chicken after being raised on breasts and i recently found that i prefer chunk light tuna to the solid white. so now im willing to try the cheaper versions.

The key is to eat veggies and foods that are IN SEASON. IN SEASON fruits and veggies will always be cheaper, tastier and with great variety. And if for some reason you just have to have summer berries in winter than learn how to Can your fruit. Trust me, it's well worth it

Trader Joes and Kings are considered "high end", unless you have no other option.

trader joe's is definitely not high end. it usually takes the crown in consumer reports annual ranking of least expensive grocery stores. people often think it's "organic" and expensive, but it's really just a simple grocery store with the basics and not a large variety - which helps keep down their costs. Forbes did a great story on them a few years ago (the owners also own Aldi's).

We spend like ... 750 a month for 2 adults, dog and a kid In NJ we'd shop mostly at Whole foods and at farmers markets. But eating well is our big splurge. We love good food and we eat well. That wouldn't count eating out.

One word:
Aldi's

How are the customers at Tj better looking than the ones at Aldi's?
