What the hell has happened to journalism these days.

Headline in Sat's APP is a big picture of a Subway sub only being 11" (Like that's world news). Page 2, snooki had an easy delivery.

Who the hell cares.

BTW...I didn't read it as my wife pointed it out to me.

Another sign of us all turning to sheep.

Its not just the APP... People can tell you all about the cast of "Jersey Shore" or all the stats from MLB but they dont have a clue where Oregon is located and they arent quite sure if it is one of the 57 states

APP is a Gannett newpaper, and I was just commenting on how s*** my local one has become (Courier-News). The front page the other day was literally: A woman in a Hunterdon hospital has a new disease, 2 buildings caught on fire in different towns 45min+ away from here, and we are going to be covering the HS Wrestling tournament somewhere in a few days. (not actual coverage, just taking up 1/4 of the page saying they will be doing it)

I find it hard to believe that there was nothing else that happened locally or in the world that day that was more newsworthy than those items.

The Star-Ledger on the other hand, has fairly decent reporting and news.

Journalism in this country has become a joke. Most of the outlets are now owned by a small number of people or companies. Unfortunately, you can find more important stories on youtube these days than in the media.

When you see what passes for popular entertainment or art today it not so suprising the so-called "news" media has lowered it's reporting standards and what it deems the public must know and is interested in knowing about.

As an example, when it took the National Enquirer, of all things, to break the story on former Presidential candidate John Edwards' personal fiasco, you know something ain't right in Kansas any more.

One of my friends grew up in Palm Beach County where National Enquirer is headquartered. His sister has worked there over 30 years. He said the stories are all pretty much legit but scandalous none the less
