Hotel in Irvington
My girlfriend is flying into JFK next week on Wednesday and we are going to spend Thursday in NYC before coming back to my place in Pennsylvania on Friday. I found a hotel in Irvington, NJ which seems to be great - but, after reading some of the posts here, I am having second thoughts about if this place would be safe.
The specific hotel is the "Americas Best Value Inn" which is located at 100 Union Ave which is right off of the Garden State Parkway between Springfield and Lyons Avenue. I have read every review I could find of the hotel online (which was 4 of them) and there was no mention of anything that would suggest it would be dangerous, but, again after reading some of the posts on this site, I am starting to get the impression that my car is likely to be gone in the morning or worse - especially when staying for two nights.
Thanks so much for any help

do not stay there, even if they pay you to stay there, there are plenty of hotels near the airport that are safe as long as you don't wander about, don't be foolish and sacrifice safety for money

Why do you need to stay in Irvington? If you want to be near NYC, there are a number of nice places in NJ close to NYC that you could stay.
There's a La Quinta on Route 3 in Clifton; also a Howard Johnson, both are reasonable.

That hotel had a fire previous because someone was smoking crack in one of the rooms and the bed caught fire. That shows you the type of people who stay there.

Hotel in Irvington
Listen I'm quite familar with the area ...and trust me Im a resident from NJ and would NOT consider stopping there not even if it was an emergency. Travel just a bit futher down the parkway to Kenilworth. You will appreciate the advise later.

Jersey City has a nice waterfront Hyatt (very close to NYC). And if you just want a place to stay, there are several hotels near Newark Airport off of route 1 & 9

Hey Everyone, Thanks alot for the quick advice I have found another hotel in Elmwood Park. I have searched and have not found anything negative about that area and the guy at the hotel said that there is a bus station and train station right nearby and that I can get right in the middle of Manhatten in 20 min from the hotel - so transport should work well. Is there anything I should know about this area or should everything be ok? Thanks again

20 minutes? Maybe if it's an express, there's no traffic and the driver goes really fast. From EP I think it will take 20 minutes to hit the GWB and longer to the Lincoln Tunnel. If you want to be close to NYC, there are several other hotels that are closer -- due east on Rt. 4, on 95, etc.
What are you looking for. LMK and I can recommend something specific.
