Put AC in a a giant bubble (since most of the gray hairs never go outside anyway) and make it a big theme park. All the talk about security and dressing up the boardwalk has been mentioned for 30 years now. At least if you make it a fun place for families, you'll get visitors.

i just stayed at the Revel last night. We typically stay at Harrahs or the Borgata when we go, but we decided to finally try Revel. My thoughts,

It is wayyyy too complicated, the layout I mean. Lots of open wasted space. You can walk for ages without actually passing or getting to anything.

That is actually my only beef. It is a beautiful, well because its new. We ate at Amada, and it was great. However, for a casino, that was supposedly sold out last night, the casino was EMPTY. I actually went to Harrah's in the late afternoon because I had comp slot cash that was going to expire, there casino was PACKED as usual. I had to hang around and wait a bit to get on my preferred machines. When I wrapped up there and headed back to Revel, there was no one in the casino. And that is why this casino will fail.

We're in our early 30's, we do well, and are down to drop some cash (which we did), but the "kids" who are posing annd want to live it up at HQ, don't. In order to make some cash via gambling, they have to cater to the senior, scooter, chain smoker crowd. But Revel doesn't want to. And I actually appreciate that. Revel feels like a Vegas hotel, just isnt enough high rollers here in atlantic city to cater too.

You can still smoke in casinos? How did they manage to bypass all the strict anti-smoking laws?

They have very small areas that are smoking areas, certain slot areas, etc. All the casinos take advantage of this except Revel, which has a strict no smoking policy, even forbidding it on their property outside the casino. Unfortunately for them, it appears a lot of gamblers are also smokers. I think this (the stricter smoking laws) is one reason many stay in Philly to gamble, where you can smoke to your hearts content. While I think AC has many issues, I do think this put another nail in the coffin.

What are the current hotel rates in AC? I haven't checked in years, but I remember years ago the hotel rooms were ridiculously expensive. Something like $500/night on a Saturday. I remember a group of us went down for my friend's bachelor party and for the 10 of us we were only able to afford 1 room.

With more and more Gambling opening up in PA. and the Northeast, I can't see how they can turn it around. As for Revel, never been inside, but from what I have read in the Ledger and peoples remarks, everything is way too expensive. 20 bucks for a hamburger? F that. They should ditch the (high price clientele) line, and make the rooms affordable. Other thing that crossed my mine. With all the A.C. casinos having most of the gambling done on the lower floors, that makes it hard for let say a family who also wants to hit the beach for the day. I remember being with my 15 year old niece at the Tropicana, we couldn't find a way through the casino from street level to the boardwalk. Plus we couldn't eat at the buffet because of her age. What kinda set up is that? Crime is still bad, but for you younger users out there, You should of seen in in the late 70's when the casinos first open. It was a allot worse...

From what I've heard the casinos intentionally make it difficult to find the exits so that you're more likely to stay inside longer and spend money, rather than making a quick exit.

You don't have to give up your rights for a cheap buffet. Maybe I wrote the post wrong, my intentions were to say this would be the answer to all this talk about new laws and gun control. If you put people in jail for a long time that commit crimes with a gun you wouldn't need new gun control laws. Try the seafood buffet it's usually better. I love how you gun nuts swarm in on a post. I was addressing a prior poster and the 2nd amendment defender to the rescue.

so gun crime is the reason atlantic city has so much filth hanging around the boardwalks and surrounding areas?

Revel is the only one who tried to do that differently. The casino is full of windows, not plunged into darkness and artificial light like the others. there are even slots facing the ocean right inside the front doors. I think you can find ridiculously expensive food at any casino, but also bargains of you look. When I went to revel, we had $3.00 Margharitas at the Mexican place downstairs (Saturday happy hour) but the same drink at another bar might have been $12.00.
