emanon,
How's the search? Rethinking NJ now with Corzine's proposed toll hike.
Sometime later this year, want to check out Winston-Salem, NC & Charleston, SC areas.
Have some time before I retire; hopefully NJ housing market rebounds by then.

hey JerseyGirl3624...
if you end up staying in NJ, and it's not too cost prohibitive...look at LBI. Not sure how "far out" you can stand to be from mainland amenities, but check out Loveladies, Surf City, etc. If you want real quiet, go to the other end of the island...Beach Haven.

Cape May County has plenty of retirees. The more affluent buy on the islands, like Avalon & Stone Harbor, Sea Isle City, or in Cape May.
Plenty have moved to the mainland; Cape May Court House is popular. It is just minutes from Avalon & Stone Harbor beaches but less money to buy a home.
We live on a residential street of about 12 houses on the mainland and half of our neighbors are retirees from N. Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania, California and New York. Everyone loves it.

Avon by the sea.... very posh, quaint little area - that would be my recommendation.

I'm originally from North NJ. I'm moved down to Toms River and to me the so called "congestion" is nothing compared to up north. With all the retired people down here we have a lot of doctors and health care. Plus a quality hosiptal and multipal choices for other things like supermarkets. Bottom line...Toms River=Convienance.
Your not going to get all that in LBI or Forked River.

What about Long Beach Island, or Beach Haven West. The second a little farther from the ocean, but a lot cheaper in price. You could probable get a really nice home on the bay for a very reasonable price. Its also very close to shopping and lots of good places to eat.

If $$ were no object, either Spring Lake, Sea Girt or Avon-By-The-Sea. If $$ is an issue, I would look to Ocean Gate, Lacey or Manahawkin.
Good Luck!
