Hi there,

I am moving New Jersey from outside of the USA, I have no idea as to the cost of living, good areas to live in, rental costs for a 2 bed room apartment and is a salary of 110K per year good? Any advise or feedback would be most appreciated.

110K is good. Cost of a good 2 Br apartment can range from $1800-3500 per month depending on how good the school district is and the proximity to a train station/NYC. Some towns with apartment complexes close to a train station: Morristown, Cranford, Chatham, Jersey City. Do you have kids?

Thank you for the replies, no kids at the moment just my wife and I so will look for a small, secure apartment with a convenient location close to shops, gyms, transport etc.

You can rent a three bedroom 2 1/2 bath house in southern and some parts of central NJ for $2000. We need to know where the OP is going to work.

"New Jersey" is a pretty large and diverse land mass. You really need to give more info to get good advice. What county will you be working in?

I will be working in Elizabeth and have been told Hoboken, Edge water and Weehaken are good areas and fairly close. I am coming from South Africa so this is all very new to me. I am keen on a 2 bed room apartment but as its just my wife and I we can do with 1 bed room place, just want to get an idea of rental costs

Hoboken, Edgewater and Weehawken are close to New York, but not really close to Elizabeth. There are very nice towns just a bit west of Elizabeth - look at Cranford and Westfield to start with.

110/yr is good salary. Those 3 towns are perfect recommendations since it is 20-30 min drive from elizabeth and close to NYC, if your wife decides to work she can easily apply in NYC and NJ. Hoboken is the best place out of the three you mentioned. My 12 yr old niece calls hoboken 'mellow new york' hah!
Just google rent Hoboken and you will find links for apartments. Just don't go on craigslist.
