I would suggest Dover, De. The area is really beautiful and the property taxes are way low. Its around 1.5 hours to Cherry Hill, nj and around 2 hours to Washington, DC. Its also around 1.5 hours to Philly. A good website where you can see house prices and property tax info is Central NJ Real Estate: NJ Homes for Sale, Agent with Central New Jersey Houses, Ocean, Burlington, Monmouth Agency marlboro Realtor broker

WEST Virginia???

I really enjoyed a drive through the I-70 area between Baltimore and Frederick, MD. The countryside looked very pretty in that area. Places around Cooksville and Lisbon looked very nice. You can get to Charles town/Martinsburg, West Virginia in about an hour, but Cherry Hill would be a little over two hours (likely more with traffic). The Aberdeen/Havre de Grace area of Maryland would be close to center between Cherry Hill and the Panhandle of West Virginia. The traffic can be horrible on 95 though. The York/Lancaster area of Pennsylania would be about equidistant too, though you'd have to traverse the Philadelphia area to get to Cherry Hill.

You can buy / lease to own a riverfront home by the Delaware Memorial Bridge for $275k.

Riverfront Home in Bensalem, Pennsylvania (broken link)

Cecil County Maryland is also nice.
