Default thoughts on jersey citys new construction boom

so what is everyones thoughts on whats happeing in jersey city? With all the new construction, and luxury condos in the once desolit downtown area where do you think jersey city will be in the upcoming years? Will this cut down on crime in other areas of jersey city? Will the other areas away from the path station see the affect of downtown? Will people pay these through the roof prices for the apartments and condos downtown? With its proximity to NYC it has somehow become a very possible choice outside of the other boros.

I think it is great!

My daughter went to NYU, and I would drive up from South Jersey and take the PATH trains to visit her. She did a summer internship in Jersey City and that went well.

A rising tide raises all the ships.

I love JC, lived there in the Exchange Place area for over a year. My wife and myself consider that small 635 sqft 1 bdrm appt. the best home we've lived in. Had great memories there.

Feel foolish now that I didn't buy the 1 bdrm condo offered to me in Paulus Hook for for abt $200k at that time. This was back in 2004.

Take it from someone with 50 years of experience from Jersey City including living in most parts. Yes the downtown area is georgous and fairly safe. Most of the people there have never set foot in the other crime infested areas in the city. Most of the DOWNTOWNERS are using this area as a bedroom community for NYC. No I have not seen the crime rate get any better. A matter of fact its worse than it ever was. Gangs, drugs, prostitution, robberies. You name it its there. Yesterday the wonderful students from Lincoln High School had a fight with each other. When the police came they had a fight with about 50 cops. Its horrible, I don't know what you guys are smoking but you better stay in downtown. Its common for the kids in high school to fight with the police on a daily basis. Goodluck with your endeavor and if you send your kids to the public highschools teach them karate and drape them in a bulletproof vest.

I remember when they first started revitalizing the "sort of" downtown area with the condos and such near Liberty State Park (I don't think it was Port Imperial, the name escapes me, this was around 1986'ish). We got all the brochures and were amazed at what they were asking. Everything was beautiful, this is true, but my mother and brothers and I would joke that "yeah, but once you stepped out of your condo, you're still in.........Jersey City".

That being said, the whole downtown area to me is amazing. I can't believe the transformation. My dad, who lived in about 12 places downtown during his childhood, would be blown away by what's gone on. It's unrecognizable.

very sound advise...but more then likely the residents of the gentrified area of downtown are more then liely DINKS ( Double Income No Kids) and more then likely only head east across the Hudson

Jersey man , you defenitly hit the nail on the head in my view. It seems that alot of these new downtown folks are a bit nieve. I think they think that theres nothing to worry about cause some NY magazine tells them downtown is the next "hotspot" or whatever new b.s. they're saying. All in all though its good for the city as long as they dont try and turn downtown into the next hoboken with all those frat boy morons runnin around.
