Where can you find the best shops/boutiques that are actually worth the trip?

Soho, in NYC, is pretty interesting, IMHO.

Growing up, we spent a good amount of time in Ridgewood, and I still go once in a while. I've bought a bike, a few pets, cigars, clothes, coffee, ice cream, Blimpie subs etc. and could probably name at least a handful of different eateries that I enjoy equally. I think my parents even once bought a car in that town...a car boutique, LOL. People make it out to be somewhat of a snooty town, but there are offerings for everyone.

You can also stop by the duck pond for a nice picnic if you have the time.

Living in downtown JC, I have to say SoHo is pretty much the place to go shopping. They have every store imaginable there. I just hate walking around with the crowds of people on the street. Insane.

Being you posted this in the NJ forum I'm guessing you are asking about shopping in NJ? If so, I agree with Westfield and Red Bank. I lived near both and spent a lot of time in both towns. They have great restaurants, bars, shops...Westfield a bit more upscale with more boutiques and Red Bank a little more funky also with some great bars.

I've never in my life been to Westfield. It's always been a Parkway exit to me. (With Clark, lol.)

With all the traffic it gets on this board, maybe I should visit there sometime.

Red Bank is a nice walkable shopping area, with plenty of spots to stop and get a snack/drink/meal.

Red Bank and Westfield (not that I go to these places all that often) - Chester used to be but it's gone downhill during the recession and the opening of a strip mall.

I'm in Red Bank sometimes because it's close, but mostly I shop on Internet Street. Hehehe.
