Default Special Education in Middlesex County

My wife and I are searching for an alternative to regular public education. We currently reside in Middlesex County (Carteret) and have a twelve-year-old with ADHD (No hyperactivity), and Dislexia (Not confirmed by nueorologist yet).
My son currently attends a small, regular private school out of town, however, he stuggles to keep up - we are searching for a full-time special education program near our home. I have visited The Craig School's website in Mountain Lakes. We are looking for something like this closer to home.
My son has no serious behavioral issues, and I am hesitant to place him in a classroom with children who are violent or depressed, etc. - (as we found in the public school special ed classes). This was our reason for taking him out of public school in the first place.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know we can't be the only parents in Middlesex County with this challenge.

Rutger's Prep, Easton Avenue in Somerset/Piscataway? Most children with your son's disability should/would be placed in regular education classroom (not isolated) with support services and an IEP listing accomodations. You might find that in a public school system other than your local district, that his services are better met. I'm sure there is someone on here who can attest to which/what school districts have a solid pupil personnel services reputation.

Red face Mom in 07008

Dear Dad 07008 - I also live in 07008. My son is same age and he attends the Carteret public schools. I would give them a try. The Special Services team will come up with an appropriate program for him. They have small group instruction, resource rooms and other programs available. They will evaluate your son and find him the right program. My boy is doing much better. He still has a ways to go but he's getting there. I believe the programs helped him. I would contact them soon. They can evaluate him over the summer. Keep me posted. Good luck.
