Maybe we'll re-consider that spending. But even with those crummy schools, 90% of NJ districts perform highly. Go down south and see what you get. You'll be amazed at how average many of the schools are.
No need to go down south. Just check out Pa, especially outside of the major urban areas(Philly & Pittsburgh). Its an atrocity. NJ schools ARE better than most states, from the teachers to the curriculum.

Can't say it enough....NJ edu is based on the belief that there is an infinite linear relationship between taxpayer money spent and quality education. A diminishing point of return does not exist in their archaic world. The labrynth of school districts and administrators, assistants and assistants assistants divert much of the edu direct cash. NJEA put up 7 million$$$ of conscritped money to unsuccessfully attack CC. Wow, 7mil!

Newark will soon be a star with the 100 mill$$ gift from Zuckerberg. If that doesn't make Newark the center of excellence of edu ya'll better reconsider your funding philosophy. Anyone have an account of that pile of cash? Aside from the initial 200K wasted on a survey and a follow-up to interpret the results.

Individually students shine whether in a good or bad classroom. Too bad the success stories could not be institutionalized as the core of NJ edu. Plenty of high school grads with good grades end up taking remedial math course when they get accepted to RU.

NJ kids that make it into good universities are there because they achieved good grades. It makes sensse they would be good students. The kids form LA comment shows the poor attitude of some of the teachers protected by tenure that have displaced better performing teachers.

CC vs the ancient edu system that determines the value of a teacher by time spent on the job and conscripts teacher pay for administrative costs that deprive our children of the best edu... CC gets a 2nd term. Oh, but this in NJ.

NJ, what could be.

What about the ripoff ones still in operation? If they are causing more accidents, it is the duty of the state to remove them and protect its citizens. If i was a lawyer i'd pursue the public safety angle.

As always, there's the bluster & then there's the truth about Christie. He's fully financed the city schools & then some while cutting or keeping suburban budgets the same. He's quite the reformer.
