I also live in JC, and would say the above JC being worse than Hoboken is completely FALSE.. Hoboken by its quality of life, its traffic congestion, and btw its only 1 mile long - in comparison, many parts of JC are very safe, downtown JC is the best, many many establishments, nothing out of reach.. most of the time you will be OUT of hoboken if you make the mistake of buying there!

I don't think there is reason to necessarily rag on Hoboken.

To me the difference is the crowd, easier to park in JC, and cheaper in DTJC in most cases. IMO it's cheaper because of the stigma attached to the rest of the city.

Taxes higher in JC. Commute to WTC better from JC, but to 33rd better from Hoboken.

But to me crime isn't an issue in DTJC or Hoboken for the most part, and traffic to get out of town is the same for both.

RE: to Exit 11 it will likely not be an issue HOWEVER if/when they shut down the Pulaski eastbound it could become a problem.

Anybody with knowledge about the bus to Port Authority from Congress and Palisade?? Is it packed to the point where you might not get on your desired bus? Or is it doable? Thanks.

If you are talking about the small bus it's totally doable. They come along every few minutes so if one is crowded you can just wait for the next one.

Couldn't say if you are asking about the Jersey Transit bus though. Don't know about that one.

Default 75 Brunswick Towers

Here's my situation and what I think. I bought in the Brunswick towers in 2013.

1) The area is not shady. The complex is fabulous. You have fantastic maintenance folks & housekeepers & doormen, opportunities to be friendly with and mingle with cohabitants (though sadly, I think people prefer to isolate themselves & it's totally possible to live here for couple years without associating much with or even meeting other folks on your floor & the floors tend to be creepily quiet).

2) There are young couples and professionals living here, people with dogs & kids. Area is also not shady though definitely not upscale. There's plenty of good services at good prices - gyms, hairdressers & salons, dry cleaners, libraries, though don't expect to run into Wall Street or Ivy League crowd.

Also, & this is important:

1) If you need to get quickly to the PATH, which is what I do, this is not the best option, & I wish I would've thought about this before buying. I wish I bought on Magnolia Avenue instead (google 278 Magnolia Avenue, Jersey City, NJ), literally across the street from the PATH. If you have Wall Street career with super long hours & need to get quickly to one of the Fortune 500 companies around Park Ave, you're better off buying / renting right around PATH (think that place on Magnolia Avenue), or by Grove Street (there for much much higher price though, of course).

Email me at ania.p.nj@gmail.com for more input. Brunswick towers is not by any means 'creepy', though it may appear as isolated & quite honestly living here is a little isolating. My opinion: if you're a young professional & work in the city, look up 278 Magnolia instead. Also, if you do, then living around here, you totally don't need a car.

Keep in mind, if you buy a place, it's not so easy to sell it afterwards - you'll put thousands and thousands into closing costs & possibly repairs / remodeling, so once you're in, you're kinda stuck with it.. for better or worse, unfortunately.

Hoboken has petty quality of life issues such as parking , drunken antics, congestion. Jersey City has violent crimes. Not to the degree of say Newark or Trenton but to compare JC to Hoboken is hilarious. You are so off with this statement its not even funny.

i live 3 blocks from the ogden address that you are interested in. its not the worst place in jc. i come home from work at 1am sometimes and have never had an issue walking alone. its not the safes but it isnt the worst. ogden ave seems to be its own little community on its own. very quiet and peaceful. as far as transportation into the city its not bad. you have the 123 bus that will have in in nyc in less than 30 mins or the small buses which will get you to nyc in 15.

I would much rather be in Jersey City. Hoboken isn't my type of scene.

Really surprised at some of the comments.
I live on Beacon Ave between Central & Oakland so a little east of Brunswick Towers. Just a 10/15 minute walk from Journal Sq PATH. I never feel unsafe, it's quiet, I have a cheap beautiful apartment, the commute is really easy.
The traffic isn't terrible, it's not unsafe.
Also broad generalizations of JC are ridiculous. It's a big place.

JC wayyyyy more interesting than Hoboken. So many new and interesting restaurants, very diverse group of people, nice sight lines (Hoboken so narrow can't see anything), and more new things coming every day. JC just beginning to blossom.
