Correct. Almost never. 99.9% of all accidents are due to bad driving, not mechanical problems.
And driving is NOT a privilege, it is a right that we have allowed the statists to falsely repackage as a privilege. Driving is motion and motion is not a privilege of the state. It is a right.
ok, then like i said...enjoy your private roads that you own and operate and drive on.
I pay LESS for car insurance in NJ then we did in Pa. The $32 Dad pays is just for the inspection, the emessions dyno testing is a whole nother *additional* charge.
nope, $32 total is what he pays, he passes, and gets his sticker.
I pay substantially more for car insurance in NJ than I did in rural PA outside of Scranton area.
I realize nothing is free. I meant "free" when I go to the inspection station. So if they keep registration the same and I have to pay a private garage then I would consider that a tax increase.
That's exactlywhat it is. NJ MVC is already a cash cow for the state and this is just one more way to squeeze a bit more out of it at our expense. The problem is that the inspection stations must cost a lot to operate considering their size, personnel requirements, utility costs, etc. and are way oversized for what is done there.

I can't vouch for that number which may well be accurate, but the reason the MVC gave for simplifying the inspection process was that the failure rate for non emission issues was negligible and the cost/benefit ratio just did not justify all the expense. At some point, even here in Nazi Jerky, it must be realized that the motorist holds the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the vehicle is safe to operate. Is anyone too stupid not to hear their brakes squealing or to notice that their tires need replacement or that their windshield has cracks in it or that there are headlights out? Fortunately for the average Jersey motorist who is as bid a wussie as the average Jersey resident, these are not hard questions, nor are they unfathomable conundrums.
We have Emissions inspection for some of the state (Metro Atlanta). Emissions inspection cost from $20-25 for newer cars(where they just plug into dataport in the car) , $25/40 for per 2000(I think where they have to do the dyno test).
About 1/2 Emissions inspection places are stand alone (they only do the newer cars), Other half are repair place based.
There is also a state referee stations you can go if you think you were failed incorrectly, you Pay $50/for the appeal, but get the $50 back if they find you failed improperly.
