Surprised to hear of the traffic in Mt. Laurel. I guess that's NJ for ya~ hopefully better than Paramus area. That's a nightmare! I looked up Moorestown on realtor.com, and I'm guessing it's a "nice" town. Some homes were 2.1 mil! On the map, though, it's next to Mt. Laurel. I've gotta check out the area better then next time I'm there. While I'm "touring" around Mt. Laurel, Moorestown, can anyone recommend places I should check out or drive by to get a better feel of the area? Moorestown, I hear, has a downtown of shops and things? Where might that be???

Well don't just take my word for it - they said its not as bad as I said. I could be wrong. I just hear all the stories and have not experienced traveling on an everyday basis. I don't have to go out there that often.
I will say this though - you can shop online at the ShopRite there and they will deliver it!!!!!!!!!! |

How long ago did you move? The traffic is getting horrible.. worst in the last 2 years. Depending on what back roads you're taking, most people know them. I drive from Rt 73 to Browns Mills on any given day a few times per month after 3 pm and hit traffic on different back roads. I also go from Browns Mills to Voorhees once a month driving rt 70.. try to make the appointment at 9:30, traffic isn't bad, takes me 50 minutes. I run into most problems around rt 70 & 73 |

I'll take South Jersey traffic over Atlanta traffic any day. I didn't know how good I had it until I moved. |

CafeLatte - Mount Laurel traffic is nothing compared to Paramus Traffic. I agree Route 70 is always bad - 73 and 38 are pains too. I usually use the local roads in Mt Laurel such as Union Mill, Elbo Ln, Gaither Dr, Pleasant Valley Dr and can get around bottlenecks.
Downtown Moorestown is located on Main St which turns into Kings Hwy further south. You can get there from Mount Laurel by taking S Church St. This will take you right into downtown Moorestown. |

Thank you. I'll definitely check out downtown Moorestown next time I'm in the area.

We've built and lived in many homes in Moorestown over the last 20 years. It's the best place to invest your money in a home. If you can do it, you definitely should. I will be returning the first chance I get. |

Good for you, Jennifer. Moorestown rocks and I love it here but not everybody can afford the average home.
A couple points for the OP - I would not recommend Marlton or Voorhees just too much congestion. Mount Laurel, however, is a great compromise, good schools, solid property values, nice town and great location to major roads. As for access to shopping it is very good. You've got the new Centerton Square shopping center that is HUGE, new ShopRite just opened up on Rt 38 and you have easy access to Moorestown Mall and Eastgate. You can get pretty good value for your $$$ in ML. Keep in mind that the same house you might see in ML is going to be 50% more expensive in M-town. |

I moved 1 year ago, but I could make it from the Ashland Station in Cherry Hill/Voorhees area to Vincentown in Southampton in approx 35 minutes. This was at 5:15 at night. I just knew what roads to take. People in NJ are so used to things being so close...I lived in Southampton a 15 to 20 minutes ride from Marlton, people were like that is sooooo far oh my gosh. Well yes, but there is no traffic out that way, so you fly. When they sit at a light here for more than 4 minutes that is a huge backup. It is funny. Next time you are in a back up on 42, time it, it probably doesn't take as long as you think to get through it. Now the traffic in Atlanta has made me appreciate the South Jersey traffic. Moorestown is awesome, I would live there, but if you want a bigger home and perhaps a newer one, then Mt Laurel may be a better choice. I would guess you'll check them all out. Good Luck! |

One thing that would drive me nuts about Mt Laurel and Medford.
I have friends in both towns, and each of them could throw a stone and hit a school from their front yard, except, their kids don't go to those schools, they wind up getting bused to a different school on the opposite end of the town. We looked in Moorestown, but from what I've observed there's some severe economic stratification going on in that town. You basicaly have Lenola where the middle class live, and everywhere else is full of rich Yuppies, or wanna bees, doing it on credit. |
