New Jersey Democrats Grapple With Rebuke of Stem Cell Initiative
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/08/ny...=1&oref=slogin

By DAVID W. CHEN and JEREMY W. PETERS
Published: November 8, 2007
TRENTON, Nov. 7 — Stung and puzzled by the defeat of a ballot initiative to borrow $450 million for stem cell research, leading Democrats in New Jersey struggled on Wednesday to explain why they were repudiated by voters and how they planned to finance the biomedical research for a center already under construction.

Corzine et. al have made in pretty clear that this is going to get ramrodded thru regardless of Tuesdays vote. Thery're just going to "find' funds from other "areas" to pay for this pet project. This is a first class example of the arrogance of NJ politicians.

I like this quote from the NY Slimes article "Recent polls indicated voters were solidly in favor of the initiative,..."

What a bunch of BS...

I know a lot of people who are in favor of stem cell research and having it in NJ but don't want to hand over any more money. People feel like the state is broke.
Well, actually it is.

Default Puzzled about voters opinion?

How difficult is it for Corzilla to understand that the people of NJ realize they are $50B in debt and were getting the point across to the government that they don't want anymore debt.

With all the pharmaceutical companies in NJ, not to mention the cost of drugs being higher in the US than elsewhere for their research, let the drug companies foot the bill for stem cell research. They'll reap the profits anyway.

They'll end up passing a bill because they don't care what the people of NJ want, it's all about them, our corrupt politicians.

Why should government be paying for this anyway? There's two many laws at a federal level of what can and cannot be done with stem cell research. If those laws are relaxed a bit, all the pharma-companies will jump into stem cell research (like J+J in New Brunswick). This will help NJ more then borrowing even more money.
