Hi folks,

Anyone know the approximately cost of re-seeding or re-sodding lawn around northern jersey by a professional?

I just want to have an idea so i don't get cheated. Please share info if you have done it, my lawn currently has a lot of brown patches and it seems too late to fix it.

My lawn is so ugly and i get depressed looking at it everyday.

Thanks again.

I would like to know the answer to this too. Our kids have torn up the lawn with jeeps and bikes, plus we dont put chemicals down so I think we have more weeds than grass. Lots of bare patches too. Probably thinking of redoing the lawn next year, maybe in the spring so this is an answer I would like to have too. Thanks.
Sorry for jumping in on your post bbnetworking...

No worries are you re-doing it yourself or professional?

I just looking to have an idea on costs. I know re-sod costs much more than re-seed, but re-seed is a slower process.

i called a guy from craigslist, he said $7 / SQ for re-sod, my small front lawn(225 SQ) will cost me around. $1,575...

Some people like hydroseeding, especially in fringe area and or large applications. It may be worth checking out.The Advantages of Hydroseeding

Last time we bought sod (2 years ago) we paid 32 cents a square foot. Even if the price went up a bit your still looking at less than 80 dollars for the sod. Add a couple of yards of top soil and a bag of starter fertilizer and I'm thinking total material is less than 225 bucks. He will probably come with a roto-tiller and turn over whatever area is being rehabbed. Rake in the topsoil with the starter fertilizer and lay the sod. He should be able to do a job like that in a half a day. If he's a professional landscaper, he obviously buys his material for less money so he's looking at a $1300.00 payday. If he's on craigslist find out if he's licensed, bonded and insured. My bet is the answer will be no. I usually don't say "do it yourself", but this is one time I would.

I reseeded 10% of my lawn this spring, it was pretty easy and I could have done a better job. I plan to redo most of my back yard in spring.

I think we will probably get someone in to do it as hubby not handy and I dont have the time. Saw our neighbors (who are landscapers) do it themselves in a day. They churned up all the ground (rototill?), and then reseeded and put hay down. It looks lovely now.

Not going to be spending $1500 though, so may have to persuade hubby to do it after all..!!

Leave it alone, your lawn will grow back. It is impossible to have a bare patch of ground with no growth.

If you wanted to eliminate the grass in an area you would be hard pressed to get rid of it unless you used weed killer. The grass will grow back and cost you nothing.
