property taxes in gloucester county nj (Burlington, Salem: for sale, real estate, houses)

I am new to nj, have only lived here for 3 yrs. we live in monmouth county and find it to be crazy expensive. (we are a family with 9 yrs. twins, so schools are important)I was looking at areas in Gloucester county and the housing seems to be less expensive. But i can't find any info on the property taxes. can someone shed some light on the property taxes in that area. is it just as bad as monmouth county? because of where my dh works our other option is PA. negatives and positives to staying in NJ or leaving to go to PA. Any insite would be greatly appreiciated. Had I known what I know now I would have done things differently. unfortunately I was not aware of this site until after we had relocated here. Thanks in advance.

We are moving to Gloucester County..Mullica Hill area and the taxes are high...very high. I don't know what price range you are looking at. You get more house in this area though. I am talking 10,000-12,000 in taxes.

We were debating on pa too. Everyone told me to run to pa...but for what we were looking for...we couldn't find there. Yes, the taxes were a lot less, but from what I found, the housing was more expensive. We looked further out and it the pricing was more reasonable..but since my dh will work in Center city..the commute became an issue. It was horrendous.

yup, just moved to gloucester county. Taxes are bad around here, though we expected that. Most towns are suffering from a recent population explosion so they've jacked the taxes up to try and meet demand. Your best best in Gloucester is to find one of the older, more established communities that isn't involved in building new schools.

Taxes are high in most areas in Glocuester county. But, you get what you pay for. You can go south to Salem county, but most people agree that the schools and such are lesser quality. Some areas in Glocuester are more affordable (i.e. Gibbstown, Swedesboro, Logan). Others are very nice like Woolwich and Mullica Hill but have very high taxes. thanks for the info. In monmouth county the home i'm in now is approx. 1800 sq. ft. 1/2 acre of land. we pay 6700 in taxes. we have just been reassessed and will be getting new tax bill for 2008. when i looked at homes online in pa just outside of phila., east along the nj border, they seemed to have close to the same taxes as nj. it seemed there was a little more house but i don't know what the areas are like. the schools seemed to score well at great schools.com. i have also looked into burlington county. I just have to wonder if the trade off on the property taxes is worth it if you are still employed in nj. both myself and my dh work in nj and will continue to work here. my dh works along the pa/nj border, it can vary from year to year so it makes sense for us to be further west. i however would have an hour commute.
I really appreciate all the info on the different areas of nj, my understanding is that monmouth county is one of the more expensive areas outside of north jersey.
