Specifically was looking at Somerville/Hillsborough area as someplace in the middle. How the 206 going south in the mornings? Are there backroads? Would love to be in Bridgewater, but the commute to Princeton seems to be over 45 min. Targeting a 30 min commute to Princeton from wherever we choose.

Alternatively would some place along route 1 make more sense like Edison/New Brunswick?

How is 287 north or Rt 1 South in the mornings?

Thanks much!

generally northbound traffic will be heavier than southbound. you are better off IMHO living somewhere near whitehouse as the traffic to princeton will be lighter than vice versa. hillsborough is good compromise.

Thanks!

Any other suggestions for Towns? Bridgewater would be more than a 30min to commute to Princeton during rush hour right?

Branchburg. It takes me 30 minutes tops to Princeton, 15 or so to Whitehouse. You wouldn't need 287 or Route 1 for either.

Flemington is the perfect choice. Right over the mountain on rileyville rd to hopewell 518 to carter rd and you are in princeton. Flemington to whitehouse is a straight 10-15 minute run up 523. Neither trip involves heavy traffic, several shortcut options. Flemington to hopewell/princeton is 15 minutes over the mountain.

Somerville is a killer as is hillsborough as it sets you up to be on 206 and 22 which can be horrendous.

Flemington is a bit too west for us unfortunately. Is there anything (shops) etc in Belle Mead? Branchburg is an option but google maps is telling me it may take ~40 min from princeton at rush hour.

There are all sorts of shops and stores, strip malls along US 206 a bit N of Belle Meade.
Also while I haven't checked status in a year or longer there was a US 206 dual lane limited access bypass being built, and that was about 2 years ago.

Anybody local know how that's going? I would imagine its fairly close to ready for "prime time".

Wow, I though Kracer had come up with a good idea. What exactly is "too west"? It seems to provide the access you wanted without some of the 206 headache, so what else is in play that could help people target for you?

Flemington or East Amwell is correct. Anything else is just wrong sorry.

Hillsborough would be fine. Depending on which part of Princeton you are commuting to, there are plenty of backroads through Montgomery (past their high school) or along River Road in East Millstone to Princeton/Rt 1. You do NOT have to take Rt 206 in rush hour to get to Princeton.
