La Riviera Gastranomia, the one with takeout and a less formal dinning area. Better and friendlier service, far better food, and more of a welcoming atmosphere. It's not as fancy as the other one, but it's not a dump by any means.

You can eat in or take out there. If you go on a Saturday, get there before 5:30 because the line is forever starting around 6. Three dishes I highly recommend: the veal meatballs and pasta, veal franchise, or the filet of bassa, which is a Vietnamese fish.

Lunch prices range from roughly $9-$15, dinner $16-$22.

I just want to find out how much I have to pay for one of those veal franchises.
Are they more expensive than a fast food franchise?
Inquiring minds want to know.

well I finally went . I thought it was good however not great. You see I cook all the time and well its like my cooking. The Ricotta cheesecake was the best part. I think if this is a 5 star or 4 star place were really in trouble in NJ. It was just good home cooked food. It was to me alittle bland too. Now Café Matisse to me was great!! Different strokes for different folks.

Well if you lived in a part of NJ where Carrabba's is considered "authentic Italian" (and it's not too bad for a chain) you'd understand why people like places like Gastronomia. Food like your mom or grandma would make. I don't need a pretentious chef on the cover of NJ Monthly serving quail eggs and other foofoo stuff.

I think I know decent food and everyone reviews the place with 4 to 5 stars. To me a 3. Sorry if this hurts your feelings, its not personal. I don't eat at crappy Italian places either. I am not a child. I travel to Vermont Farms pick up some of the best ingredients and cook and create meals like Lydia. This place was a bit bland, yes good home made but not a 5 star sorry! I am very picky and maybe don't get out enough! Honestly I could have cooked the meal myself! However in your defense the quality and crap that is passed off as good makes this place a 5 star top notch dining establishment!

Add the fact that I may be expecting too much. In the past 10 years besides going into NYC, I have only had 2 really great experiences. Now you cant really compare them to this little place its apples and oranges. The two places were Café Matisse, 5 star and in Congers NY Bully Boys which would be 4 1/2 star. That's it. The rest even ones that everyone raved about sucked or were just good. Maybe the Chop House 1 time in Englewood but not as good as the other two. So I do have a bit of a palate.
