Most people that owe takes do so just because they decided to not pay the in the first place. If you are a w-2 employee and owe taxes, it is because you thought you would just say you have 20 dependents, get a bigger paycheck and then "plan" to pay the taxes at the end of the year, but for some reason either dont want to or cant. If you are a business owner, you are just not paying your taxes along the way because you decided to pay other bills first. I say go after people. They need to pay their "fair share"

and if you have read the stories on the topic, you can get your license back if you work on a plan to pay the taxes back, you do not have to pay 100% back to get the license (for work purposes)

Fair share is fine. There should be equality but when New Jersey has the highest taxes of all 50 states that's neither "fair share" or equality. Strong arming people to pay outrageous taxes because of years of mismanagement is just plain wrong.

There is a provision for getting a restricted license for getting to
work.
NJ does not have restricted licenses. The article is from NY and not NJ. The suspension comes only after exhausting all appeals and owing at least 10,000 in back state income taxes. To get that far behind at 4 percent you're either an idiot or a thief. 10k in back taxes means you have a decent income or you just didn't bother to pay for years.

A far as a high tax, NJ ranks 24th. in state income taxes. While you're comparing Florida to NJ, Fl has a state tax on gas almost twice that of NJ. The sales tax can be as high as 9.5 percent depending on the town or city.

So what does this about people that are not paying the taxes that they are required to by law when others in the state are doing so?

NJ does grant restrictive licenses. They issue them at the Superior Court level, not municipal.

Listen up.....you can't squeeze blood from a stone. If they don't have money to pay their taxes to begin with where do they get the money from to pay any fines or multiple legal appeals ? I'm sure there are a handful of people that will always try to avoid paying taxes but the reality is that the government and its collection powers scares the hell out of most people so they pay....if they can. If you truly can't then its just plain stupidity to fine or punish those already in debt.

People buy new cars rather than pay taxes they owe, they send their kids to expensive colleges rather than pay taxes they owe, the buy expensive homes rather than pay taxes, join country clubs and do many other things that they could pass on in order to pay taxes they owe.

its interesting how someone can just pull out some bs from their butts and figure "it must be true at least in some cases, so let me say something meaningless because it makes me feel smart."

Captain I was a tax collector for over 30 years. I have seen this- they are real life examples.
