they are going to come and take your license from you?
"but as a form of identification for travel, to prove residency and even to buy a drink."
i dont know if i agree with his statement that "getting a license is a privelage not a right." that seems to imply that once government requires a license for something (that you may need to survive) that something you need to do is no longer a right, its a "privelage." i think people do have a right to drive without unreasonable limitations. getting a license and insurance arent unreasonable limitations in my opinion, but that doesnt mean you can just link any government requirement with your right to drive and have it be reasonable.
i doubt they would physically come and take it. it's probably just a few clicks in a computer to suspend a license, and then they would probably send you a notifciation.

yeah, i was just pointing out the flaw in what the guy wrote. even if a license is suspended you can still use it for ID in bars, airports, etc.
While I agree that suspending a person's driver's license could be a strong inducement for that person to pay taxes, it reminds me of the archaic concept of Debtor's Prison.
(If you owe money, we will lock you up until you pay your debts, even though putting you in jail will make it impossible for you to earn money to pay those debts.)
Similarly, taking away somebody's driving privileges would likely make it much more difficult (or perhaps, impossible) for him/her to get to work in order to earn money to pay the tax bill.
Wouldn't it make more sense to impose some kind of sanction that didn't have the potential to eliminate the income that is needed to pay that tax bill? Offhand, I can't think of another workable sanction, but surely somebody could come up with a better idea than suspending a driver's license.
The same type of people who break the law by not paying thier taxes are the very same people who will drive without a license or insurance. That law just won't deter.
Certainly I'd drive anyway. I mean, what am I going to do, sit at home until they take that too? Or maybe spend 5 hours a day trying to get around without driving, building up an ever more intense hatred for the state as the rain poured down on me on the way to the bus stop.
The State can deny renewal of business licenses for businesses that do not turn over the taxes they collect-like sales tax or employee withholding taxes. Liquor license holders must get cleared by the State every July for example
