Gov. Christie just said in a live press conference that a trench is being built to stop the fire spreading. Also the Boardwalk damage is spread along 6 blocks.
Christie is very nononsense talking to the reporters. I agree with him let the firefighters do their job. I hope they get the rain that just went through us.
I heard that it was only the remaining part of the old boardwalk (i.e. the only part not rebuilt) affected. It also happened right after the end of the summer. I see something fishy. Guess they will have to make that part all new now too

A friend texted "the solution to a down summer" I sure hope not.
That section of the Boardwalk had all the good food places.....Kohrs Ice Cream, Park Sea Food, Kruppers fries, Berkley Sweets, Maruca's Pizza, Three Brothers, The Saw Mill...
Not to metion the old Carousel and all those kiddie rides that cost a quarter. Somethings are irreplaceable.

Wow...really? Yeah, we're down 50% sales so let's torch the Kohr's Bros store? Anyone who has stepped foot on the boardwalk could tell you how ridiculously flammable the whole thing looks, so only an idiot would think that was a good plan (not that its impossible, because there certainly is no shortage of idiots ib the world). Oh, and I can assure you that the new part didn't look all beautiful and new compared to the old section. It all looked the same touristy nonsense, just slightly different colored wood on the new part. I'm not a big fan of the boardwalk, but the kids liked going, and almost all of the places that burned were local shopowners that really didn't need another thing to happen to them right now. Not to mention all of the homes and condos that are in danger.
My parents have a beach house in Seaside Park, and my dad was on the beach when it happened, so he saw the smoke start right away. I'm also wondering about the carousel...I don't see how it could have possibly survived since the fire swept straight through there. Hopefully the old one near Casino Pier in Seaside Heights will make it. I was just on it with the kids Labor Day weekend.
