Default CHerry HIll Rt. 70

Hi all-

I am originally from Bergen cty, we live in FL now and are moving back for family reasons. We are not staying in NJ for expense reasons. While we are looking in PA for a house, a friend offered us to stay in his vacant home in Cherry Hill. I know nothing about CHerry Hill all I know is what I heard about Camden and it scares me. I have 2 dogs and a 2 yr old. The house is right on Rt. 70 W. Is 70 busy like Parkway or Turnpike busy? We propably wont be there more than 3 months but Im still a little nervous in uncharted territory. Can anyone tell me about this Rt 70, and is CHerry Hill safe even though it is in Camden Cty? Our friend says its a nice house but it was also on the market and not selling. We trust his judgement but I need unbiased advice.
Thanks.

I know nothing about New Jersey. I am doing some research as well, because my husband may have a job offer there. But just so you are aware Cherry Hill was named #47 of CNN Money Magazines best places to live in the country.

Cherry Hill is one of the nicest areas in South Jersey and also has one of the best school systems. Because of the proximity to Camden, car thefts are high at the Cherry Hill Mall but despite that, it's still not that bad. My husband's grandmother lived there right off of 70 and we visited often. I also used to work in Cherry Hill when I was a student at Rowan University in Glassboro. I always thought I would love to live there.

Rt. 70 *is* one of the main roads though so it is extremely busy. Because it has lights, it's not quite like the Turnpike/Parkway.

I hope this helps. Best of luck with your decision!

ditto spleen. Cherry Hill is safe. Rt. 70 is busy but not turnpike/parkway busy. I was just on Rt. 70 in Cherry Hill on Sunday...it is 4 lanes in most spots (both sides of traffic combined), widening to 6-8 lanes if there is a shopping center to turn into. Obviously, keep your dogs and your kids out of the front lawn unless the home has a secure fence. Don't be adventurous and take trips to Camden at all. They have a great aquarium there that might be terrific for your 2 year old though but I personally don't think it's worth it; go to the Philly Zoo instead. You will also be relatively near Sesame Place, all the museums in Philly, and a million malls/shopping plazas.

Rt. 70 is a monstrously busy, strip mall after strip mall congestion road.
But CH is extremely safe. It bears no relation to Camden. Don't give it another thought. It's a great place to raise kids, although I wish it had kept some (any) of the former rural flavor.
If your house really is right on Rt. 70, maybe you could put up a sound-deterrent fence, like they have on highways.
The big crime in CH was that a rabbi had an affair with a TV network woman, and arranged to have his wife killed (and succeeded, but got caught.) Google Rabbi Neulander/Cherry Hill for details. My sister went to this rabbi when she was thinking of studying Judaism!
Best wishes on your move.

Hi
I live in Cherry Hill and yes, Rt.70 is busy but you're only gonna be there for a few months so it sounds like a sweet deal to me.

We just moved here this past April relocating from California. I am from Monmouth County originally but I hadn't lived in NJ for a dozen + years. We kind of picked CH off of a map when we decided to move back to the east coast.

Like others have already stated. CH is nice, safe and has very good schools.

Good Luck on your move.

Shanny
