Well, neither of those links prove anything- in the first link, RWJ received the "highest rating" in Cancer Performance (they were one of many that did)- they weren't the highest rated. The second link is to New York Magazine's listing of the best hospitals in the NYC/NJ area- that doesn't compare them to anything other than themselves.
If you want to find some statistics that compare NJ/NYC facilities to other facilities around the country, see the link below. You'll find that no NJ/NYC hospitals made USN&WR's 18-member "Honor Roll" (which looks for high scores in 6 specialties). I actually found the link to that report in the first article linked above, when that article mentioned that RWJ was ranked 26th and 50th in the nation in the report.
Overall, The Kessler Institute ranked #2 in the Rehabilitation category, and the only other NJ hospitals that made the ranks of the top 50 in any category at all were RWJ in New Brunswick and Hackensack UMC, with RWJ getting to #26 in two categories, and Hackensack getting to #33 in two (and a few rankings for them in the 40's).
Well I can say that from what I saw in Northern NJ, Valley Hospital, and Hackensack Hospirtal with out this team of Doctors, and lets not forget the great medical equiptment they saved my mom's life. Believe me if I were to get seriously ill, I would go back to NJ for treatment, the medical field is nowhere near as good in Vermont and Upstate NY. Maybe Mass would be good, but Im heading to NJ for treatment!!!!!! I have seen so many people sick and get well or in remission from some of North Jersey doctors and Specialists I think its tops!!! People here were I live travel all the way to ALBANY for treament or Burlington which is not as good. In NJ you are close to all great health care. Come live in the woods with cancer , I dont think you would live long if you went to the hospital here!!!!
Well, NO. NJ doesn't have any of the best hospitals in the country. Sorry to burst your balloon.
Perhaps this is true, but a lot of the "best" hospitals are not located in the most desirable areas to Live, Baltimore, NYC, etc etc.
I am pretty sure the major hospitals in NJ will satify the needs of most. But then again you always have a few who have to seek out the best no matter the cost.
I miss my Dr's in NJ, they were the best! I had to fly to NJ a couple weeks ago to see a Dermatologist for a check up because I couldn't get one here in SC.
I can also vouch for Robert Wood for cancer patients. They treated my dad & had we not gone there he wouldn't have lived a total of 8 months after diagnosis. Doctors Rubin & Strair were top notch doctors as well as all of the Fellows under them.
At Robert Wood, the nurses on my dad's floor (4 North) were some of the most caring nurses I have ever met. There was one nurse in particular that we bonded with, her name is Annie. There were days that I didn't know what I'd do without her.
One of the absolute worst hospitals is Virtua in Mount Holly. I've had tests done & met some of the nastiest nurses ever. My dad also used their Fox Chase cancer center in the end, he was gone in 3 weeks time after switching there... We should have stayed with Robert Wood. I do not recommend Fox Chase for cancer patients.
Virtua West Jersey in Marlton & Berlin are also great hospitals.
The hospitals here in NJ are one of the very reasons we chose to remain here. I've had open heart surgery at RWJUH and they saved my life. (how's that for a plug, lol!)
